一、教學目標：
Course Description:
This comprehensive course traces the development of Western literature from its ancient origins to the Renaissance period. Beginning with the Hebrew Bible and Ancient Greek literature, we will explore major literary works, genres, and themes that have shaped Western literary tradition. The course covers Ancient Middle East, Greece, Rome, Medieval Europe, and the Renaissance, examining all works within their historical and cultural contexts. The course will be conducted mainly through online lectures with monthly face-to-face sessions featuring lectures and small group discussions.
Course Objectives:
By the end of this course, students should be able to:
1. Understand the development of Western literature within its historical and cultural contexts
2. Identify recurring themes and genres across different periods of Western literature
3. Analyze ancient, medieval, and Renaissance literary works from modern critical perspectives
4. Appreciate the continuity and evolution of Western literary tradition
