一、教學目標：
Course description
The course is the second part of a serial courses. This course will approach multiculturalism majorly in terms of gender. The reading texts includes novels and movies. The first nine weeks of the course will focus on the issue of gender, and the rest nine weeks will integrate the topics of class and race into the syllabus. In the internet lectures, the reading texts will be proceeded in details to shed light on the literary structure, themes, and rhetoric. In the monthly class, group discussion will be directed to unfold the cultural mechanism of the mainstream society through scrutinizing the ideological construction of the concepts of gender, race, and class. The texts chosen for the course are western oriented, but emphasis on relating the western context to students’ home context will be highlighted in order to raise students’ reflection on their own society from a multicultural perspective.
Course objectives:
1. To trigger out students’ awareness of multiculturalism,
2. To cultivate students’ respect to and appreciation on multiculturalism, and
3. To equip students with the competence to live in a multicultural context.
