一、教學目標：
The purposes of this course are to enhance the learners' reading comprehension, in terms of their ability to analyze sentence structures, and understand meanings of words and rhetoric devices. Empathy arousing is also a crucial goal that this course aims to achieve. Through interaction and dialogue with the texts, it is hoped that students will develop both cognitive and affective empathy with the characters in the story they read. This course will focus on works written by local and ethnic American writers. Works are studied in the context of the social, political and cultural forces that are compared and contrasted with the learners’ home contexts.
